Spring Retrofit

Spring Water Collection & Distribution System Retrofit

Project Scope: Sovereign Homestead Design was brought in by Sineath Construction to assess, design and implement a new collection and distribution system for this spring after two attempts at drilling wells both came up dry to service a newly constructed home on Black Mountain in North Carolina. The spring had historically served a half dozen homes simultaneously, but was currently serving only one as of the assessment. Due to an open spring head and lack of any pre-filtration, contamination from E.coli and sediment build up in the lines were a persistent problem.

Work Completed

  • Assessment of existing spring infrastructure and site conditions, followed by design and quote development for an upgraded systems capable of serving the new residence as well as the existing residence already relying upon the spring.
  • Implementation of an upgraded collection package, capped to keep bears and other wildlife out of the spring head and reduce contamination potential (the existing spring head was open to atmosphere and had failed state mandated E. coli testing). A Carolina Water Tanks Spring Box was also installed to split flow between the two residences. A new water line was run 670′ down the mountain to the storage tank location for the newly constructed home.
