Walk & Talk

What Is A Walk & Talk?

A Walk & Talk is a quick and low cost way to gain valuable perspective on designing your property in alignment with the natural patterns present in your landscape.

Why Start With A Walk & Talk?

  • If you know you donโ€™t know what you donโ€™t know, a Walk & Talk is a great way to learn what is possible and advisable given your unique context.
  • You will get to see the old and familiar from an integrated, whole-systems perspective, which will increase the likelihood of starting off on the right foot and avoiding costly pitfalls.
  • Increase function and productivity, decrease maintenance and operational costs, enhance resilience and create something beautiful.

What Kinds Of Things Can We Discuss?

  • Site Context โ€“ climate and site-specific factors that should guide your decision-making. Remember to establish the most important context first – your values and vision for your Highest Quality of Life by creating something like a Minimum Holistic Goal!
  • Water Patterning โ€“ water harvesting earthworks, erosion repair and prevention, rain catchment systems, greywater, blackwater, laundry-to-landscape, ponds and more!
  • Access โ€“ retrofitting and patterning of roads, paths, trails, entrances and exits for maximum energy efficiency, minimal maintenance, and 4-season function.
  • Structures โ€“ Siting and orientation for new structures and retrofits for existing structures that maximize energy efficiency and function while decreasing maintenance costs.
  • Living Systems โ€“ perrennial-backbone food systems, shade, privacy/view screens, windbreaks, fertility plantings, living mulches, water gardens, livestock integration, nutrient cycling systems and so much more!
  • Energy โ€“ passive solar design (heating/cooling spaces & occupants), appropriate wood-burning technology.
  • Economy โ€“ your propertyโ€™s โ€œunfair advantagesโ€ and synergies between them and your skills, passions and vision.
  • Element arrangement โ€“ nesting systems to maximize utilization of space and increase total yield – more function, less frustration!
  • And whatever else is on your heart and mind!
