Holistic Ecosystem Design

NOTE: Completing your Minimum Holistic Goal is a mandatory first step in the Holistic Ecosystem Design process. As designers, we need to understand your priorities based on your values and lifestyle design choices. This is what the MHG clarifies – for us and anyone else you bring in to help along the way.

Holistic Ecosystem Design is a participatory design process – you will be actively involved throughout.

How It Works

Holistic Ecosystem Design is for land owners ready to fundamentally up-level their property to a state of default abundance. This is a participatory design process with the goal of moving you into implementation and management as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Through this process we will design site-specific, integrated systems that work with Nature to meet your Quality of Life needs by moving through the following design focus layers: Water > Access > Structures > Living Systems > Energy > Economy. Design elements will mapped onto your property so you can get a ‘big picture’ perspective of where each element needs to go, why it needs to go there, and how and when to put it in place.

Holistic Ecosystem Design is helpful for clients who:

  • Have a big vision and want to make sure what they do today builds a strong foundation for what want to do tomorrow.
  • Want/need to do more but are already ‘maxed out’ maintaining their current systems (approaching burnout).
  • Want ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’ mapped onto the landscape (order from chaos).
  • Want to avoid costly Type 1 Errors and missed opportunities to leverage their landscape’s innate potential for abundance.

Deliverables include:

  • Site survey (1-2+ days on site)
  • 1-2 mid-cycle design review meetings (held remotely)
  • Written design report with a section devoted to each element detailing the WHAT (its essential functions), WHY (why it was selected for your context), HOW (integration with other elements and management procedures) and WHEN (when to implement it in relation to other elements for greatest leverage).
  • Detailed hi-resolution design maps of existing and proposed elements (i.e. how things are and how they will be).
    • Copies of all GIS map files created before and during the site consultation in KML format for 3D viewing in Google Earth.
    • High-res JPEG versions suitable for printing at poster size to create laminated base maps available for an additional fee.
  • Phase 1 Implementation recommendations – what things need to get done first to create a solid foundation for continued prosperity.

All work with clients is always carried out under a professional duty of confidentiality.

Process

To begin the Holistic Ecosystem Design Process, click the “Begin The Process” button on the left side of the page, then fill out the Design Request Form. We will send you a confirmation email with links to a Foundational Site Assessment Questionnaire, followed by deposit payment and scheduling for the site survey.

Price

Price depends on the complexity of the site/project, project scope and travel required. Total price will be shared after we have reviewed the contents of your Foundational Site Assessment Questionnaire and figured in travel costs.

A deposit of $1,500 is required to begin work and schedule the initial site survey.

Holistic Ecosystem Design is how we create a legacy property that works for you by working with Nature.
